Crisis Nurse Specialist

Hamilton Center, Inc. is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our Crisis Services Division as a Crisis Nurse Specialist. This role will be part of a 24-hour crisis stabilization hub that includes enhanced 24-hour crisis services and a mobile crisis unit that provides crisis stabilization services to identified populations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct and monitor the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care.
  • Perform admission assessments and reassessments as indicated according to policy, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Work closely with law enforcement and community agencies to provide immediate intervention aimed at reducing the risk of emergency room and psychiatric hospitalization.
  • Function as a member of the Mobile Crisis team, consisting of Crisis Diversion Specialists, on-call therapists, and medical team.
  • Assist in connecting individuals to appropriate levels of care after stabilization of the crisis situation.
  • Obtain and transcribe correctly the licensed independent practitioner's (LIP) orders for admission to the inpatient unit.
  • Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Document in the patient's record according to policy and procedure.
  • Assist in the identification of patient and family educational needs.
  • Participate in the teaching of patient and family educational needs, especially related to physical issues.
  • Provide daily information at shift change and treatment review/discharge meetings.
  • Participate in CQI activities as assigned.
  • Complete safety plans and internal referrals for continued services after crisis has been stabilized.
  • Implement crisis intervention techniques when dealing with emergency situations.
  • Provide crisis assessments under the supervision of the on-call psychiatrist.
  • Serve as a resource to Hamilton Center staff and community regarding available services, referral sources, emergency detention procedures, etc.
  • Participate in cross-training as assigned.
  • Ability to demonstrate competent use of Electronic Medical Record.
  • Assist with answering inquiring phone calls, respond to requests for information/referral sources, and route calls as appropriate.
  • Review referrals from outside agencies for HCI's inpatient unit and staff accordingly with on-call provider's orders.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical conduct regarding confidentiality, dual-relationships, and professional stature.
  • Keep supervisor informed of potential crisis situations.
  • Maintain basic computer skills and knowledge to access client information and/or update information.
Requirements:
  • Licensed by the State of Indiana as a Registered Nurse.
  • Maintain current and active license to practice, without lapse.
  • Maintain current American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
  • Maintain current Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.
  • Maintain TB screening certification.

  • Standing, walking, bending, stooping as required to provide individualized patient care.
  • Possesses strength necessary to direct and assist in implementation of CPI interventions.
