Job Summary

Nidec Motor is seeking an Electromagnetic Design Engineer to join our team in the Aerospace industry. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing electric propulsion systems for battery-powered aircrafts, enabling sustainable and efficient transportation.

With a strong background in electromagnetic design concepts and permanent magnet motor design, you will apply your theoretical and practical skills to develop precision motor brushless DC motor drive systems. You will work with a diverse team of design engineers to support industry leaders and spearhead technological advances in transport decarbonization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electromagnetic motor designs to customer specifications using MotorCAD, Ansys Maxwell, Atlair Flux, SPEED, and/or JMAG software.
  • Conduct independent motor design analysis and prepare reports on results.
  • Apply knowledge of power electronics and their interaction with motors to integrate power electronics with electric motor design.
  • Develop, maintain, and upgrade tests for design verification and validation for electro-mechanical products.
  • Design and specify advanced motor test equipment and procedures.
  • Interact with external customers to translate customer requirements and electromagnetic principles into product design.
  • Complete rigorous documentation, including design specifications, verification test plans, and change orders associated with design changes.
  • Communicate with peers and supervisors, including documentation of work, meetings, and decisions.
  • Interface with new product development project teams to transition products into production.
  • Provide guidance to outside contract personnel and support projects.
  • Support compliance to Regulatory Requirements, including electromagnetic interference/electromagnetic compatibility (EMI/EMC), Underwriters Laboratories (UL), and RoHS standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in electric motors and drives or similar industry.
  • Experience with electromagnetic design software, including MotorCAD, Ansys Maxwell, Atlair Flux, SPEED, and/or JMAG.
  • Experience with other simulation software, such as Mathematica.
