Job Summary:

The Energy Settlements Analyst will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely settlement of physical and financial energy trading activity. This includes invoicing, reporting, and audits. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of market protocols and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Timely and accurate completion of work including invoicing, reporting, and audits.
  • Daily, weekly, and monthly checkout of transactions related to power bilateral, natural gas, transmission, balancing authority, and/or energy markets.
  • Preparation of weekly settlements to accurately reflect accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger entries.
  • Month-end estimates and eventual actuals as SPP settles the previous month.
  • Collection, analysis, and validation of meter reading data used in power billing and other related activities.
  • Identification, troubleshooting, and resolution of data quality issues.
  • Regulatory reporting as required.
  • Development of automated embedded tests to identify settlement issues early in the process.
  • Understanding of contract details for existing and future power supply agreements.
  • Research and analysis related to the feasibility and cost/benefit of different contracts and strategies in support of Pricing and Marketing issues.
  • Audits of internal controls around publicly published data, such as LMPs, DZSFs, and tariff-based prices.
  • Maintenance of standardized counterparty checkout documentation files.
  • Ensuring compliance with terms and conditions of contracts and tariffs in accounting and billing.
  • Taking ownership of data and identifying, drafting, and implementing validation methodology to ensure accuracy on a global basis.
  • Filing and tracking billing disputes with customers and market portals.
  • Acting as point person for day-to-day activity in energy markets.
  • Responding to inquiries from internal and external auditors.
  • Reviewing utility tariffs and documenting specific rules relating to adjustments of metered load prior to settlement.
  • Performing other energy accounting reconciliation and reporting as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in Math, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Three (3) years of relevant work experience consistent with the job classifications and progression.
  • Demonstrated experience with energy settlements preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Basic understanding of market protocols.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive corporate and outside party information.
  • Ability to research, draw conclusions, and make recommendations.
  • Ability to communicate the status of specific projects, programs, or ongoing work.
  • Ability to interact with departments throughout the organization on billing and accounting issues and reporting related to market transactions.
  • Ability to identify and communicate barriers to timely and successful completion of work assigned and suggest possible solutions.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret market data to create reports.
  • Ability and skill in monetizing and tracking of transactions, evaluating billing terms included in potential contracts, and serving as the subject-matter expert for all settlements functions within the energy market.

Working Conditions:
This job is performed inside an office building at normal temperature ranges one hundred percent (100%) of the time. Noise level is fifty to sixty decibels (normal conversation) for a couple of hours per day. Work is subject to regular hours, with the exception of tight deadlines where irregular hours may be required.
