Mammography Imaging Specialist

Key Responsibilities:
- Complete patient history/breast assessment forms and transmit them into the Radiology PACS system.
- Perform mammography studies and procedures, positioning patients, applying compression, and providing immobilization means and patient counseling as required.
- Review orders with peers and consult with attending radiologists as needed, maintaining daily records of exams performed.
- Follow all National Patient Safety Goals, receiving and double-identifying patients using appropriate criteria prior to performing the study ordered.
- Prepare sterile fields as required and directed, ensuring sterility of surgical packs, trays, and disposables.
- Assist radiologists during exams and procedures as needed, capturing specific mammography images and assisting with biopsy specimen collection.
- Post-process and perform quality control of mammography images as required, preparing images for radiologist interpretation and transmission to the Diagnostic Imaging PACS system.
- Maintain working knowledge of all department equipment and devices, reporting equipment malfunctions appropriately.
- Provide fear/stress-reducing service-oriented communication with patients, explaining procedures, answering questions, and providing encouragement.
- Ensure appropriate safety precautions are followed, applying measures to minimize radiation exposure and capturing and recording radiation dose delivered during procedures.
Requirements:
- Minimum one year general radiology experience as a registered technologist, including experience or successful completion of a training program in the area of specialty, if applicable.
- Minimum one year mammography experience.
- Associates degree in radiologic technology or two years experience in a directly related area.
- Basic Life Support OR CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, Radiographer License (Hawaii) required at hire, and American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate - Mammography Technologist.
