Job Title: Electrical Relay Technician

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Electrical Relay Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the proper functioning and maintenance of protective relays in electrical systems. This includes inspection, testing, troubleshooting, calibration, and repair of protective relays used in power generation, transmission, and distribution systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine inspections of protective relays to identify any signs of wear, damage, or malfunction.
  • Conduct various tests on protective relays to verify their proper operation and response under different conditions, including fault conditions.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with protective relays, including false trips, misoperations, and communication failures.
  • Calibrate protective relays to ensure they are accurately sensing and responding to electrical abnormalities within specified tolerances.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks on protective relays to prevent failures and prolong their lifespan.
  • Repair or replace faulty components within protective relays to restore their functionality.
  • Maintain detailed records of inspections, tests, maintenance activities, and repairs performed on protective relays.
  • Adhere to safety procedures and protocols while working with electrical systems and equipment to prevent accidents and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior technicians or personnel on the proper operation, maintenance, and testing of protective relays.
Requirements:
  • Solid understanding of electrical principles, including AC/DC circuits, power systems, and protective relaying principles.
  • Proficiency in using testing equipment such as multimeters, relay test sets, and oscilloscopes.
  • Knowledge of protective relay models, types, and configurations commonly used in the industry.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and relay settings.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in performing tests and calibrations.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Willingness to adhere to safety protocols and regulations.
  • Relevant certification or training in electrical technology, power systems, or protective relaying is preferred.
