Job Summary

This position is for a IT Specialist (Network) at the Air National Guard Units. The selected candidate will design and engineer IT networks using various transmission systems, including multi-channel satellite, troposphere scatter systems, and cable systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and engineer IT networks using various transmission systems.
  • Engineer and design router-to-router connections using military and commercial protocols.
  • Develop plans for the employment of communications systems to support operations.
  • Plan and design Wide Area Networks (WANs) using Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) and Military Specification (MILSPEC) components.
  • Determine operational, technical, and support requirements for network equipment and systems.
  • Coordinate and conduct operational tests and evaluations of designed networks.
  • Review and analyze data to make technical judgments and prepare decisions and recommendations.
Requirements

The selected candidate must have at least 12 months of specialized experience at the GS-09 level or the equivalent. This experience must include planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment, adapting guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment, and preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies.

The candidate must also have a basic knowledge of data processing functions and general management principles that enabled the applicant to understand the stages required to automate a work process.

The position requires the ability to work in a team environment and to communicate effectively with others. The selected candidate must also be able to interpret and apply joint standards when designing IT networks and/or systems to meet mission objectives.

The position is an indefinite appointment that may convert to a permanent status without further competition if the position becomes available.
