Lead Archeologist Position in Environmental Planning

Terracon's Austin office is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead our Cultural Resources practice. As a member of our Environmental Planning group, you will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support client projects across the region, state, and nation.

The successful candidate will possess strong technical expertise, excellent communication and team-building skills, and the ability to mentor junior staff. You will oversee desktop constraints analyses, Phase I surveys, site eligibility determinations, and mitigation planning, ensuring compliance with regulations such as Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the National Environmental Policy Act.

This role offers a unique opportunity for a self-motivated individual to excel in a team environment and contribute to the growth of Terracon's Archeological practice in Texas and beyond. As a senior team lead, you will develop cultural resources sections within NEPA documents, collaborate with other Terracon offices on large project efforts, and promote best practices within the company.

We are looking for an advanced graduate degree holder in Anthropology, Archeology, or a related discipline, with over 8 years of experience in the field. Previous experience in proposal writing, budget management, and project finance is essential. Familiarity with pertinent legislation, including the Antiquities Code of Texas, is also required.

As a leader, you will be responsible for directing staff technicians, preparing reports, and presenting ideas in a comprehensive manner. A valid driver's license, ability to travel up to 25% of the workweek, and flexibility in your work schedule are necessary. Strong writing skills, teamwork, and networking abilities are also crucial for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mentor junior staff and supervise staff technicians.
