Job Summary:

As a Radiation Therapist at CARTI, you will play a critical role in administering, simulating, and recording radiation treatments to patients as prescribed by a radiation oncologist. Your expertise will be essential in accurately delivering prescribed doses, imaging tumor volumes, and outlining corresponding targets on patient surfaces.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer Radiation Treatments: Perform radiation therapy procedures according to physician orders and departmental guidelines, determining and preparing set-ups within established parameters, calculating monitor units, and recording patient treatment information in charts while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform daily warm-up and start-up procedures of equipment, quality control checks, and notify proper personnel of equipment malfunctions and/or adverse conditions.
  • Patient Communication: Communicate with patients and families regarding routine procedures during radiation therapy, including appointments, skin care, treatment field care, proper attire, and other essential information.
  • Patient Assessment: Assess and evaluate patient needs and treatment problems, recommend interventions, and act in accordance with physician practices and departmental policies while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Problem-Solving: Investigate problems or unsatisfactory procedures and recommend possible solutions.
  • Treatment Aids: Construct patient treatment aids, bolus material, positioning, and immobilization devices, checking for suitability and accuracy.
  • Chart Accuracy: Perform checks on patient charts for accuracy and proper documentation according to established procedures.
  • Scheduling: Schedule patients for daily treatments.
  • Quality Control: Maintain quality control of patient charts and treatment parameters by implementing guidelines on a regular basis.
  • Room Maintenance: Maintain room cleanliness, linens, and needed supplies in treatment rooms and notify proper personnel of areas needing attention.
  • Accessory Evaluation: Evaluate accessories for damage and coordinate repair.
  • Education and Training: Evaluate, teach, and monitor the clinical and didactic education of radiation therapy and diagnostic students.
  • Radiation Safety: Monitor and adhere to general radiation safety guidelines.
  • Process Implementation: Implement new processes regarding EMR updates and equipment updates.
Requirements:
  • Education: Completion of an accredited program of radiation therapy technology.
  • Certification: Current registration as a radiation therapist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or registry eligible with a passing score within 360 days from date of employment.
  • Licensure: Current licensure as a Radiation Therapist with the Arkansas Department of Health.
  • Skills: Skill and proficiency in the technical field of radiation therapy technology, knowledge of institution and departmental policies and procedures, chart coding, scheduling, physicians' protocols, equipment operation, maintenance, safety, and quality control guidelines.

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Communication: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
  • Interpersonal: Must interact and communicate both verbally and in written form, interact and exchange information regarding patients with physicians and other departmental personnel, and outside agencies on a frequent basis while respecting the confidentiality of patient information.
