Department Overview

The Electric Operations division is committed to delivering safe and reliable electric services to our customers. This team oversees all aspects of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, which include planning, engineering, maintenance, construction, asset management, business strategy, restoration, and emergency response.

Position Summary

This role is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) and is subject to collective bargaining agreements.

Under general supervision, this position requires exercising judgment and discretion, managing all phases of the development and execution of assigned projects, and acting as the primary contact for these initiatives. Projects typically span multiple years, involve significant risk management, and may include formal partnerships with external organizations. Assignments are high-profile, necessitate extensive project management expertise, and often require specialized knowledge in areas such as:

  • Electric transmission substation projects
  • Electric transmission line projects

This position operates in a hybrid model, balancing remote work with on-site responsibilities as dictated by business needs. The designated work location will be within the PG&E Bay Area-Central Coast region.

Compensation Information

PG&E is providing a salary range that reflects the company's good faith belief regarding compensation for this position at the time of posting. This range is specific to the job's locality. Actual salaries will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.

Salary Range:

CA Minimum: $148,272

CA Maximum: $190,488

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures project objectives are realistic and achievable.
  • Guides engineering teams in conducting complex risk assessments and alternative analyses, as well as developing conceptual designs for project sponsors.
  • Manages and oversees EPC contracts in compliance with ESC Work Oversight Committee standards.
  • Negotiates third-party contracts to support other departments when necessary.
  • Develops and promotes best practices across the organization.
  • Delivers presentations to PG&E executives as required.
  • Facilitates conflict resolution within project teams.
  • Mentors and advises junior project managers.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience at PG&E (or 9 years externally) in project management, project controls, engineering, or construction.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering for substation projects or Civil Engineering for transmission line projects.
  • Experience and knowledge of electric substations and transmission line projects.
  • Proficient in Project Management tools and current company software, including SAP Financials and Work Management modules, as well as Microsoft Project Scheduling Software.
