Job Description:

As a Peer Support worker at Clark Community Mental Health, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with mental health conditions or substance use disorders. You will provide non-clinical, strengths-based support to clients, helping them navigate their recovery journey.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist individuals in achieving their recovery goals by providing emotional support and guidance.
  • Develop and lead peer-led support groups to foster a sense of community and connection among clients.
  • Promote dialogues on recovery and resilience, encouraging clients to share their experiences and insights.
  • Teach symptom management skills and problem-solving strategies to empower clients in their recovery.
  • Support clients in finding and maintaining employment, fostering a sense of purpose and identity.
  • Use the stages in recovery concept to promote self-determination and empowerment among clients.
  • Assist clients in setting and achieving wellness and health-related goals.
  • Document client progress and outcomes in a timely and accurate manner.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; specialized certification by the state is a plus.
  • Peer Certification required for this position.
  • Lived experience similar to those clients you serve is essential for success in this role.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills are necessary for successful collaboration with clients and colleagues.

Working Conditions:

The work environment may involve sitting or standing for long periods, with frequent travel required for meetings with clients. The ability to tolerate prolonged exposure to smoke and pets may be necessary in some situations. Lifting up to 20 pounds may also be expected as part of job duties.
