Medical Records Specialist

About the Role:
This position provides critical support services to our Medical Clinic at Kansas State University.
Key Responsibilities:
- Answer incoming phone calls utilizing good telephone communication skills and knowledge of Health Center policies and procedures.
- Register patients, confirming eligibility and collecting correct billing information and insurance.
- Schedule appointments, including follow-ups.
- Coordinate all referrals for Medical Clinic, including acquiring pre-authorizations with insurance and making appointments with outside entities.
- Coding each provider and medical provider visit.
- Release of medical record information as needed, following all legal guidelines, including FERPA and HIPAA.
- Log all transactions in computer and in the appropriate medical record.
Requirements:
- High school diploma.
- One year of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three years of relevant experience.
- Coding skills.
- Understanding of FERPA/HIPAA laws.
- Basic medical insurance understanding.
