Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Sterile Processing Instrument Coordinator to join our team at Mass General Brigham. As a key member of our Central Processing Department, you will be responsible for providing exceptional inventory management, program management, and technical support to our Perioperative Services, Endoscopy, and external areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure accurate tracking system data management for all products and instruments, with a special emphasis on data support functions.
  • Review and implement Instrument Functionality (IFU) guidelines for all instrumentation, adhering to enterprise and regulatory standards, including the State Department of Health, Joint Commission, and Center for Medicare Services (CMS).
  • Collaborate with Clinical Operations leadership to develop instrument/scope tray count sheets, enter instrumentation and trays into the tracking system, add pictures/comments, and maintain the downtime count sheet system.
  • Design and build custom Sterile Processing Management (SPM) workflows to support adherence to instrument IFUs.
  • Print, review, and organize Preference Card and Pick Lists from Epic for case cart building.
  • Supply leadership with data as requested to monitor processes and adherence to standard operating procedures related to instrument and scope reprocessing.
  • Collaborate with Staff Development Team to assist with orientation and training of sterile processing employees and operating room staff related to the instrument tracking system.
  • Manage vendor instrument functions, including reception, inspection, system entry, instrument contents verification and documentation, return to vendor, and removal from inventory.
  • Manage the department's reusable instrument inventory, including purchasing, shipping and receiving functions, tracking using an inventory tracking system, maintenance of instrument par levels, and implementation and management of individual instrument marking/tracking processes.
  • Coordinate instrument repair needs, including working with vendors, issuing requisitions, and packaging devices for shipment.
  • Manage daily supplies needed for the CPD Operation.
  • Perform various information systems and data responsibilities for CPD, including managing and troubleshooting CPD IS hardware and software needs, managing new employee profiles, and utilizing Smartsheet and SharePoint to maintain various departmental data files.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • CRCST or CBSPD certification preferred.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.
  • Understanding of medical terminology and ability to interpret written instructions and complete various forms and records regarding equipment processing and preparation of equipment.
  • Experience utilizing a computer as a daily necessity of employment, proficiency in Microsoft Office and similar programs.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, juggle and prioritize multiple competing tasks and demands, and seek supervisory assistance as appropriate.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs (greater than 2 years).
  • Data entry experience (greater than 1 year).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience processing reusable instrumentation in a hospital setting (greater than 1 year).
  • Customer service experience (greater than 3 years).
  • Experience in an OR/Sterile Processing Environment (greater than 3 years).
  • Experience utilizing Epic.
  • Experience utilizing SPM or similar inventory tracking system.
  • Experience using PeopleSoft eBuy.
  • Experience using IMS Ready.
Working Conditions

Exposure to the Operating Room environment is a requirement. A strict dress code and professional appearance, including wearing surgical scrubs, is required. Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 lbs, stoop, bend, pull, and place and retrieve material. Able to work on weekends or holidays as needed for special projects and/or system issues.
