Data Engineering Manager

Capital Group is seeking a highly skilled Data Engineering Manager to lead our team of data engineers in building and managing complex data capabilities. As a Data Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading a team of data engineers in designing, implementing, and delivering large-scale, critical, and complex data architecture, storage, and pipelines.
You will work closely with the Product Management team, Solutions Engineering team, investment professionals, and technology associates to create and implement detailed quality technical designs for mission-critical applications using existing and emerging technology platforms.
As a Data Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for building enterprise data processing and analytics systems, optimizing both computational and storage efficiencies on cloud platforms. You will also lead a team of data engineers and be responsible for their coaching and professional development.
You will be a player-coach, passionate about our mission, and committed to driving superior long-term investment results through the application of modern engineering and data management methods.
Key Responsibilities- Lead a team of data engineers in designing, implementing, and delivering large-scale, critical, and complex data architecture, storage, and pipelines.
- Work closely with the Product Management team, Solutions Engineering team, investment professionals, and technology associates to create and implement detailed quality technical designs for mission-critical applications.
- Build enterprise data processing and analytics systems, optimizing both computational and storage efficiencies on cloud platforms.
- Lead a team of data engineers and be responsible for their coaching and professional development.
- Be a player-coach, passionate about our mission, and committed to driving superior long-term investment results through the application of modern engineering and data management methods.
- Strong experience in various data systems and structures (i.e., SQL, NoSQL, Key-Value, Streams).
- Expertise in building ETL data pipelines using Python and Pyspark and orchestration tools like Apache Airflow, Luigi, etc.
- Experience managing a team of data engineers (5+ years).
- Extensive prior experience as a data engineer, with a solid understanding of engineering best practices (e.g. Agile software development, test-driven development, unit testing, code reviews, design documentation, etc.).
- Understanding of the importance of implementing end-to-end monitoring & alerting solutions, and utilization of data processing technologies (i.e., Hadoop, Apache Spark, AWS Glue, and Kafka).
- Passionate about management, leadership, and developing others.
- Strong background in Cloud Data Platforms using any one of the leading cloud platforms -AWS/Azure/GCP. (AWS preferred).
- Possess the business acumen and the ability to communicate effectively with your team, distributed teams, and with the leadership team.
- Implement cloud-based solutions using technologies such as modern distributed systems design patterns, microservices, streaming platforms, and container orchestration systems (Docker, Swarm, Kubernetes).
- Thoughtful in your approach to ensuring engineering best practices are established, understood, and adopted by the teams you lead.
- Competitive base salary range: $187,370-$299,792.
- Eligibility for an individual annual performance bonus, plus Capital's annual profitability bonus.
