Job Overview

This role involves managing media relations and emergency response communications for an Oil and Gas company. The candidate will be on-call for media response during specified hours and will develop and implement strategic media communications, handle media inquiries, and act as a spokesperson for the company during after-hours and emergency operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Media Relations: Develop and enhance relationships with electronic and print media. Serve as a key spokesperson after hours and during emergency operations center activations.
  • Strategic Communications: Develop and implement strategic media direction to advance company programs, policies, positions, and contributions. Create, draft, and edit various written communications including releases, white papers, briefings, and talking points.
  • Issues Management: Develop expertise in assigned issues and drive coverage and messaging around these issues. Arrange media coverage/briefings for officer visits and other external communications interactions.
  • Emergency Response: Play a key role in leading emergency response efforts, coordinating closely with operations-based teams and utilities.

Top Qualifications:

  • Experience with Media: Proven experience managing media relations and handling quick-turn and sensitive topics.
  • Experience with Operations-Based Teams/Utilities: Familiarity with operations-based teams and utility companies.
  • Communication Skills: Strong ability to create, draft, and edit all manner of written communications.
  • Emergency Response Expertise: Experience in media relations during emergency situations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience in media relations, emergency response, or utility operations.
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or a related field, or relevant experience.

Additional Notes:

  • The role swaps with another worker every other week, resulting in 113 on-call hours per week, or 226 hours per month.
  • Actual hours engaged in work typically range from 4-10 hours per week.
  • Contractors are not required to use their personal cell phone.
  • Suppliers should ensure they can support the monthly salaried pay setup before submitting candidates.
