Job Summary:

The Advanced Practice Nurse, Trauma Services position at University Hospital, Newark NJ, is a critical role that requires a skilled and dedicated professional to provide exceptional patient care and leadership on the Trauma service. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with physicians and nursing leadership to identify patient care and staff development needs, and will be responsible for providing clinical patient care to Trauma patients in collaboration with the Trauma Team and other healthcare disciplines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical patient care to Trauma patients in collaboration with the Trauma Team and other healthcare disciplines.
  • Work collaboratively with physicians and nursing leadership to identify patient care and staff development needs.
  • Utilize advanced practice nursing expertise to provide patient care services, staff orientation, consultation, and evaluation.
  • Maintain a clinical tract faculty appointment and serve as a preceptor for students.
  • Participate in staff development programs, patient/family education programs, performance improvement, research, and education programs related to trauma.

Qualifications:

  • Certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
  • Masters Degree required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience required with two (2) years of surgical intensive care or trauma RN experience preferred.
  • Care of patients on research protocols and an understanding of clinical research principles is highly desirable.
  • Computer literacy, organizational skills, excellent communication skills, interpersonal and group skills, and compassion are required.
  • BLS, ACLS certification required. ATLS certification must be obtained within six (6) months of hire.
