Job Overview

Key Responsibilities
  • Mammography Procedures:
    • Position and prepare patients for mammography exams, ensuring comfort and proper positioning.
    • Operate mammography equipment to capture high-quality images of the breast tissue.
    • Ensure proper compression of the breast during imaging to obtain the best possible images while minimizing patient discomfort.
    • Assist patients with undressing and gowning, as well as positioning the breast for imaging.
    • Perform digital mammograms and additional views as needed to obtain complete images of the breast.
  • Patient Care and Comfort:
    • Greet patients, explain the procedure, and answer questions to alleviate anxiety.
    • Educate patients on the importance of mammograms, helping them understand the process and what to expect.
    • Reassure patients during the exam, maintaining a calm and empathetic demeanor.
    • Monitor patients for discomfort or issues during the procedure and adjust accordingly.
  • Image Evaluation and Quality Control:
    • Review mammograms for clarity and completeness, ensuring diagnostic standards are met.
    • Ensure images are free from artifacts or distortions that could hinder diagnosis.
    • Work closely with radiologists to produce high-quality images and evaluate the need for additional views or retakes.
    • Assist in conducting breast ultrasound or stereotactic biopsy procedures if necessary to investigate abnormalities found in mammograms.
  • Equipment Maintenance and Safety:
    • Ensure proper operation of mammography equipment, troubleshooting technical issues as needed.
    • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment, following safety protocols and manufacturer guidelines.
    • Follow radiation protection standards to minimize patient and staff exposure.
    • Ensure the machine is calibrated and functioning correctly to provide optimal images.
  • Record Keeping and Documentation:
    • Maintain patient records, including medical history, previous mammogram results, and details of the current exam.
    • Document relevant patient information, such as imaging results, positioning, and special instructions or requests from physicians.
    • Log procedures, patient information, and images into the Electronic Health Records (EHR) system.
  • Collaboration with Medical Team:
    • Communicate effectively with radiologists and physicians regarding images requiring further attention or additional imaging.
    • Assist in explaining test results to patients, helping them understand next steps if further evaluation or follow-up is needed.
    • Work closely with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of care for patients, especially if abnormal results are found.
  • Safety and Regulatory Compliance:
    • Ensure HIPAA regulations regarding patient privacy and confidentiality are followed.
    • Adhere to ACR and FDA guidelines for mammography procedures and safety.
