This role assists eye care providers in the care of patients and flow of clinical activities, ensuring proper care and usage of medical instruments. Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting with performing patient care under the direct supervision of an eye care provider, demonstrating proficiency in performing ophthalmic core competencies.
- Performing basic ophthalmic testing procedures, diagnostic testing, administration of medications, and tasks delegated by the eye care provider.
- Assisting with minor procedures and prescription refill process under the direction of the provider.
- Documenting patient information, providing education, and entering charges, while assisting with the flow of patient care.
- A minimum of a High School diploma or GED.
- Required licensure/certification includes Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) or National Contact Lens Examiner Certification (NCLEC) if performing as a contact lens technician. Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification is also required.
- A minimum of two years sponsored on-the-job ophthalmic training or ophthalmic internship experience.
