Diagnostic Imaging Specialist

Join Northwell Health as a Diagnostic Imaging Specialist and play a critical role in patient diagnosis. As an Ultrasound Technologist, you will perform ultrasound exams to aid clinicians in interpreting medical images.
This position requires independent judgment in applying non-ionizing ultrasonic waves for disease diagnosis. You will work collaboratively with clinicians to ensure the appropriateness of studies and perform related administrative tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Preparation: Prepare patients for ultrasound exams, positioning them according to departmental standard operating procedures. Explain procedures in layman's terms to alleviate patient anxiety.
- Imaging and Reports: Obtain pertinent imaging and diagnostic reports required for correlation with ultrasound exams.
- Consultation: Consult with referring physicians regarding patient history and determine appropriate ultrasound exams.
- Equipment Setup: Set up equipment to administer particular exams efficiently. Use technical judgment to ensure accurate results.
- Ultrasound Procedures: Perform ultrasound procedures and recognize the significance of structures visualized on the oscilloscope. Distinguish artifacts from normal or pathologic processes.
- Evaluation Determination: Determine the need for more extensive evaluations beyond preliminary instructions.
- Patient Observation: Observe patients during entire examinations. Recognize and report any changes in patient condition or motor abnormality complaints.
- Documentation and Maintenance: Document image details and labels studies. Maintain records and logs of exams performed.
- Equipment Calibration and Troubleshooting: Perform frequent calibration checks and adjustments on ultrasound equipment. Troubleshoot mechanical problems as necessary.
- Additional Duties: Perform related duties as required. All responsibilities are considered essential functions under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Requirements:
- Vocational or Technical School Diploma: Required.
- Credentials: One (1) of the following: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS), Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), or Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS). Required.
- Technical Experience: 1-3 years of technical experience is required.
- OBGYN Registry and Experience: OBGYN registry and experience are preferred.
Compensation:
The estimated annual salary range for this position at Northwell Health is $82,500-$136,340 per year. This determination may be modified in the future based on several factors such as location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, and internal equity.
