Senior Systems Engineer Opportunity

A leading aerospace and defense innovator is seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer to play a key role in advancing the development of cutting-edge electric propulsion and power generation systems.

Position Overview: As the Senior Systems Engineer, you will lead the integration of complex components to create sophisticated electric power generation and propulsion systems. You will be responsible for specifying software, electrical, and mechanical interfaces while designing, implementing, and testing software tailored to meet strict quality and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Integration & Requirements: Derive and decompose system-level requirements into mechanical, electrical, software, power, efficiency, thermal, and EMC subsystems based on customer needs.
  • Product Development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to lead electric machine design from concept through to production.
  • Design Leadership: Guide system design decisions, conducting trade studies, performance analysis, risk assessment, and defining test and evaluation strategies.
  • Documentation & Testing: Develop detailed specifications, system architecture, design documentation, and test plans. Ensure comprehensive customer reviews and act as a subject-matter expert for internal teams and clients.
  • Strategic Insights: Provide key insights to Product Management regarding market needs, product performance, and competitive landscape.
  • R&D and Proposal Support: Support business development by identifying research and development opportunities, advocating for internal projects, and contributing to proposal efforts.
  • Project Planning: Accurately estimate resources and timelines for hardware and software development, ensuring alignment with program schedules.
  • Operational Improvements: Propose and implement operational policy improvements within the Systems Engineering domain to optimize efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field with 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of electronic systems, electric machine design, motor/generator controller development, and PCB layout.
  • Control Systems & Documentation: Strong experience with embedded control systems, control system components, and creating thorough requirements documentation.
  • Engineering Standards: A proven track record of adhering to engineering best practices and standards.
  • Communication & Project Management: Strong communication, organizational, and project management abilities, with an aptitude for leading complex, multidisciplinary projects.
  • Tools Proficiency: Familiarity with SOLIDWORKS CAD design and experience with Matlab/Simulink for system modelling and analysis.

Preferred Skills:

  • Systems Engineering Tools: Experience with tools such as DOORS, DNG, Cameo, Jira, and Confluence.
  • Technical Leadership: Demonstrated leadership in designing, architecting, and maintaining C/C++ code.
  • Thermal Design & Electronics Packaging: Knowledge of thermal management and electronics packaging.
  • Innovative Contributions: Patents or publications in relevant fields.
  • Industry Expertise: Prior experience in Aerospace or Defense sectors.
