Job Summary

Midcontinent Communications is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Machine Handler to join our team. As a Heavy Equipment Machine Handler, you will be responsible for operating construction equipment in the installation, maintenance, relocation, and repair of our underground fiber network infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate Construction Equipment: Safely operate various types of construction equipment, including backhoes, mini-excavators, vibratory plows, and directional bore machines, to install or maintain underground utilities.
  • Maintain Equipment: Properly clean and maintain equipment, check fluid levels, and conduct visual inspections to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Read and Interpret Site Plans: Read and interpret site plans, construction drawings, and scope of work documentation to perform job site analysis and site walks.
  • Ensure Safety: Practice and enforce safety rules and procedures to ensure the safety of employees and communities.
  • Provide Training: Provide effective training to less experienced team members as needed.
  • Load and Transport Equipment: Load, unload, and transport excavation equipment to and from job sites.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent, or two years of equivalent work experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Experience: Experience in operating heavy equipment used in the installation of telecommunications infrastructure is preferred.
  • License: Willingness to obtain and maintain a Class A CDL driver's license with tanker endorsement is preferred.
  • Knowledge: Working knowledge of construction, the National Electrical Code, OSHA regulations, state and local regulations, and general safety standards is required.
