About the Position:

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking a skilled Firearms Compliance Specialist to join our team in North Chesterfield, Virginia. This role will support our commitment as Point of Contact to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) by enhancing outreach activities and providing training to firearm dealers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct background checks prior to firearm purchases
  • Analyze criminal records and determine prohibiting factors for gun buyers
  • Maintain and report statistical information related to firearms compliance
  • Monitor receipt and implement dissemination of gun show notification forms and vendor lists

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid Virginia operator's license required or ability to obtain prior to hiring
  • Eligibility to become Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certified
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience with VCIN/National Crime Information Center (NCIC)

Salary and Benefits:

We offer a competitive salary range of $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience, plus benefits including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
