Job Opportunity: Clinical Therapist for California Correctional Facilities

AvaMed Workforce is a leading healthcare staffing agency that provides top talent to California State Correctional Facilities/CDCR. We are currently seeking a skilled Clinical Therapist for a full-time assignment at our correctional facility in Stockton, CA.

Job Summary:

We are looking for an experienced Clinical Therapist to provide mental health services to inmates. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  1. Consult with supervisors, treatment team members, and CDCR institutional healthcare personnel on complex cases
  2. Document all care provided to inmates, including face-to-face contacts and Interdisciplinary Treatment Team (IOTT) meetings
  3. Monitor inmate progress using CDCR Mental Health approved documentation formatting for progress notes
  4. Apply community standards of practice for non-medical treatment modalities and ethical standards
  5. Perform mental status exams (MSEs) in face-to-face clinical interviews
  6. Examine prior mental health records, institutional charts, probation reports, court records, and other available documents to assist in formulating patient diagnoses and developing treatment plans
  7. Conduct mental health education and develop additional resources for mentally ill and sex offender patients/inmates/youths
  8. Assist patients/inmates/youths in applying for entitlement benefits (SSI), community programs, and services
  9. Facilitate patient transitions between various settings within the institution
  10. Perform pre-release functions for releasing patients/inmates/youths, including patient education and facilitating transition to county mental health and community mental health treatment programs
  11. Participate in IDTT meetings
  12. Compile and analyze data from audits pertaining to mental health program requirements
  13. Provide information to support staff for data entry
  14. Develop a therapeutic relationship with patients/inmates, families, and caretakers to enhance effective treatment delivery

Requirements:

  • Masters or Doctoral degree in Psychology or related field
  • California State Board of Psychology license required
  • Experience working in correctional facilities or similar settings preferred
