Job Summary

The Security Specialist - Explosives Detection Canine Handler plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of our clients by conducting thorough searches for explosives using a trained canine partner.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Conduct searches for explosives at client locations using a trained canine partner.
  2. Operate the canine in accordance with TSA CCSP-K9 program guidelines and resolve alarms as needed.
  3. Liaise with clients, security personnel, law enforcement representatives, and other partners to execute client security plans.
  4. Maintain effective communication with clients and company management.
  5. Adhere to customer service-focused mission and maintain professional image.
  6. Be flexible to handle last-minute shift changes and post adjustments to meet client requirements.
  7. Complete paid canine training course and successfully complete TSA 3PK9 certification and nationally recognized third-party canine certification.
  8. Maintain canine proficiency according to GWFS policies and procedures and meet annual TSA 3PK9 and third-party certification requirements.
  9. Maintain day-to-day health and welfare of assigned canine and perform basic emergency first-aid if necessary.
  10. Promptly report any issues or concerns regarding equipment or uniforms.
  11. Participate in scheduled canine training events.
  12. Obtain and maintain required state security officer licensing.

Requirements

  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Pass criminal background checks including drug testing.
  • A minimum of one year of olfactory detection handler experience.
  • Weekend/Holiday/Evening availability.
  • Hold a NYS Security Guard license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Law Enforcement and/or military background.
  • Standby duty willingness and availability.

Work Environment

Employees may be exposed to extreme temperatures, fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, and loud noise.

Physical Requirements

Employees may be required to remain stationary, stand, push, pull, climb, kneel, crawl, balance, squat, bend, and reach during shifts. Use gear to move items around, including carts and dollies. Occasionally lift up to 49 pounds.

Salary and Benefits

This part-time position offers $32 per hour, paid bi-weekly. Benefits include health insurance and a competitive hourly wage.

Relocation and Work Setting

Relocation is required before starting work. This in-person position requires working on-site with clients and canines.
