As a vital member of our team, the Mortgage Loan Specialist is responsible for the comprehensive processing of consumer and mortgage loan applications, guiding them through to successful closing while adhering to established protocols and standards. This role is essential in delivering exceptional service to both loan officers and clients of Oostburg State Bank. The position entails meticulous gathering of pertinent information and completion of necessary documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver professional, prompt, and precise service in the management of customer loans, with a strong emphasis on detail and efficiency.
  • Evaluate mortgage and consumer loan documentation for further action, including ordering credit reports, arranging property appraisals, and verifying liens. Engage with customers as needed to clarify documentation requirements.
  • Create and maintain loan files, ensuring all supporting documents are completed accurately. This includes preparing loan worksheets, submitting files for loan officer review, and finalizing closing documentation.
  • Possess a foundational understanding of the loan servicing system to assist clients and bank staff with inquiries related to loan payments, escrow accounts, and payoffs.
  • Ensure precise preparation of documents, data entry, check processing, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Complete all necessary closing paperwork and ensure proper filing in designated locations.
  • Execute back-office functions such as processing paid loans, conducting loan file audits, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Perform various tasks to guarantee the accuracy of collateral documentation, ensuring the bank's security. This includes recording liens and assignments with appropriate state and local agencies.
  • Confirm adequate insurance coverage on collateral securing loans.
  • Communicate effectively with loan officers regarding any deficiencies or exceptions found in loan files.
  • Stay informed about bank policies and procedures relevant to job responsibilities to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Adhere to all state and federal regulatory requirements, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA/AML).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Work Environment:
  • The role is performed in a standard office environment, utilizing office equipment such as computers, calculators, telephones, photocopiers, printers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Flexibility to work outside of standard hours may be required.
  • Physical demands include the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, as well as occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of light to moderate weights.
  • A strong affinity for teamwork and professionalism is essential.
