We are seeking a highly skilled Speech Language Pathology Assistant to join our team at Adelbrook Inc. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about working with students with autism, neurodevelopmental disorders, emotional disturbance, and learning disabilities.

Job Summary:

The Speech Language Pathology Assistant will assist the Speech Language Pathologist in providing appropriate services to meet individual student needs; implement specially designed instruction plans developed by the Speech Language Pathologist; document students' performance and monitor progress through various data collection methods as directed by the SLP; Collaborate with the SLP and reaching staff to design appropriate learning activities in accordance with specially designed instruction plans; assist with clerical duties (preparing and organizing materials, filing, and scheduling activities, etc.) as directed by the SLP; perform checks and maintenance of equipment.

This position requires the SLPA to 'float' between all 3 Adelbrook locations (Cromwell, Manchester, Middletown). Time at each location will vary depending on the caseload needs, and will fluctuate. This position may require the SLPA to fill in full time at 1 location as needed. This position reports to the Speech Language Pathologist and the Director of Education. This is a non-exempt position.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist the speech-language pathologist with speech-language and hearing screenings (without clinical interpretation of results)
  • Assist with informal documentation as directed by the speech-language pathologist
  • Follow documented treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising speech-language pathologist
  • Document patient/client performance (e.g., tallying data for the speech language pathologist to use, preparing charts, records, and graphs) and report this information to the supervising speech-language pathologist
  • Assist the speech-language pathologist during assessment of patients/clients
  • Assist with clerical duties such as preparing materials and scheduling activities as directed by the speech-language pathologist
  • Perform checks and maintenance of equipment
  • Support the supervising speech-language pathologist in research projects, in service training, and public relations programs
  • Assist with departmental operations (scheduling, record keeping, safety/maintenance of supplies and equipment)
  • Collect data for monitoring quality improvement
  • Exhibit compliance with regulations, reimbursement requirements, and speech-language pathology assistant's job responsibilities
  • The speech language pathology assistant should not perform any task without the express knowledge and approval of the supervising speech-language pathologist.
  • The speech language pathology assistant:
    • May not perform standardized or non-standardized diagnostic tests, formal or informal evaluations, or clinical interpretations of test results
    • May not screen or diagnose patients/clients for feeding/swallowing disorders
    • May not participate in parent conferences, case conferences or any interdisciplinary team without the presence of the supervising speech-language pathologist or other certified speech-language pathologist
    • May not write, develop, or modify a patient's/client's individual treatment plan in any way
    • May not assist with patients/clients without following the individualized treatment plan prepared by the speech-language pathologist or without access to supervision
    • May not sign any formal documents (e.g., treatment plans, reimbursement forms, or reports; the assistant should sign or initial informal treatment notes for review and co-signature by the supervising speech-language pathologist)
    • May not select patients/clients for services
    • May not discharge a patient/client from services
    • May not disclose clinical or confidential information either orally or in writing to anyone other than the supervising speech-language pathologist
    • May not make referrals for additional service
    • May not counsel or consult with the patient/client, family, or others regarding the patient/client status or service
    • May not demonstrate swallowing strategies or precautions to patients, family, or staff
    • May not represent themselves as a speech-language pathologist.
Requirements:
  • Associates degree in speech pathology
  • Completion of speech-language pathology assistant certificate
  • Two years' experience preferred
  • Strong behavior management skills and experience is preferred
  • Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorders and Intellectual & Behavioral Disorders must be demonstrated
  • Candidates must have a positive attitude, good communication skills, demonstrated good judgment and ability to establish effective rapport with students, families, and all colleagues
  • The ability to work with students and colleagues from diverse ethnic, economic, educational, and religious backgrounds is requisite as is commitment to exceeding standards of professional & ethical practices and responsibilities
  • As a condition of employment, must successfully attain and maintain the following per agency standards (including but not limited to): Training and yearly recertification in PMT [Physical/Psychological Management Training], Trauma Informed Care, CPR and First Aid
  • A valid driver's license and excellent driving record are requisite
Salary:

$45,000 - $60,000 per year, depending on experience
