Fleet Mechanic Job Description at US Foods, Inc.

As a dedicated Fleet Mechanic with US Foods, Inc., you will be responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing diesel equipment while performing preventative maintenance. This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills alongside a valid Class-A CDL license and extensive hands-on mechanical experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Troubleshoot and repair diesel equipment, including tractors, trailers, bobtails, reefers, lift gates, and other heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Perform regular maintenance tasks to ensure the fleet is in good working condition.
  • Document all repair orders, PM lists, and parts accountability accurately.
  • Handle road service calls and perform road rescue/transportation of equipment as needed.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • A valid Class-A CDL license (DOT certified preferred).
  • At least 7 years of verifiable hands-on experience as a heavy-duty commercial diesel mechanic or reefer mechanic.
  • Diagnostic and troubleshooting competency relating to equipment repairs.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs.

Work Environment:

This role involves working in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision, requiring the ability to manage multiple functions simultaneously. The job also requires physical stamina, as you will be lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, bending, and standing frequently.

The estimated base rate for this role is between $22 and $38 per hour, depending on relevant experience and/or education. Compensation may vary based on specific skills, function, geographic location, and other factors as applicable by law.
