This job posting is for a part-time Registered Nurse position. The salary listed is for a full-time employee, and the actual salary will be adjusted based on the number of hours worked.

About the Job

The Oregon Department of Corrections is seeking Registered Nurses with a passion for caring for marginalized and underserved incarcerated individuals. The patient population in our correctional facilities is disproportionately affected by mental health needs, substance abuse needs, and socioeconomic stressors. Our nursing staff play a critical role in providing evidence-based care to address these needs.

As a Registered Nurse in our correctional facilities, your primary responsibility will be to provide healthcare services to individuals living in our facilities. Your tasks will include:

  • Direct Patient Care: Providing nursing care includes patient assessment, nursing diagnosis, care planning, medication administration, laboratory/medical procedures, and treatment provision in accordance with ODOC policies, procedures, protocols, provider orders, and evidence-based standards of care.
  • Coordination of Care: Coordinating patient care by scheduling services on-site and community-based services to ensure optimal patient health outcomes are achieved.
  • Communication: Providing comprehensive patient education and serving as a resource for non-medical staff regarding healthcare in the correctional setting. Advocating for patient care needs to ensure timely and effective care.
  • Documentation: Maintaining accurate, legible, and complete records of patient care, including requests for medical attention, objective data collected during patient care, treatment provided, evaluation of treatment effectiveness, and patient education provided.
  • Administrative: Coordinating nursing care activities with services provided by other departments. Assuming responsibility for the operations of the unit in the absence of management staff. Evaluating and monitoring medical supplies to ensure availability and accurate accounting.

This position is represented by the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). Eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS).

Benefits

As a DOC employee, you will receive medical, dental, vision, and basic employee life coverage through the Public Employees Benefits Board (PEBB) and retirement benefits through the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). You will also accrue paid vacation leave and sick leave monthly, with wage increases awarded in accordance with the applicable labor contract.

Additional incentives may be available, including:

  • 5% for bilingual
  • 4.75% for BSN
  • 9.5% for MSN
  • 5% for Lead Worker
  • Swing shift - $3.92/hour
  • Night shift - $3.85/hour
  • Weekend shift - $1.65/hour

Minimum Qualifications

Possess a valid Oregon Registered Professional Nurse's License at the time of appointment. Preference given to candidates with an unencumbered license.
