Job Summary

As a Phlebotomist at CSL Plasma, you will play a critical role in the efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors. Your primary responsibility will be to perform venipuncture, monitor the pheresis process, and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure the highest quality of plasma collection.

Key Responsibilities
  1. In compliance with SOPs, perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set-up, donor monitoring, and donor disconnect.
  2. In compliance with SOPs and Food & Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines, perform venipuncture on donors to begin the pheresis process.
  3. Evaluate vein performance of the donor to identify possible problems; make necessary corrections to expedite donation time and ensure product quality and donor safety.
  4. Ensure the donation process is efficient and make adjustments when necessary to make the process a positive experience for the donor.
  5. May educate new donors on the use of therapeutic products made from donated plasma.
  6. Maintain alertness to any reaction by donors and assist with reactions or notify appropriate staff.
  7. Use Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to record incidents that occur during the pheresis process.
  8. Required to perform calibrations and verify that maintenance has been performed as outlined in the SOPs.
  9. Required to respond to and resolve complex equipment alarms or donor issues.
  10. Troubleshoot equipment failures and create incident documentation.
  11. Monitor donor flow on the donor floor to assure continuous turnover.
  12. Collect arm samples or whole blood samples from donors for testing.
  13. Ensure the accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  14. Understand the policies and procedures associated with hyper immune programs at the center if applicable.
  15. Maintain a clean and efficient work environment and ensure sufficient operating supplies and forms are available as needed.
  16. Follow all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures.
  17. Promote safety in all actions.
  18. Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  19. May be cross-trained in other areas to meet the needs of the business.
  20. Bilingual skills may be required at the discretion of the organization to meet the needs of the business.
  21. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
