POSITION SUMMARY:
This role is pivotal in enhancing departmental operations, encompassing responsibilities such as patient registration, pre-admission and admission processes, as well as reception and discharge duties. The individual must gather comprehensive and precise patient demographic data. Additionally, Patient Access Representatives are required to implement appropriate and compliant techniques for collecting patient liabilities before, during, and after the service date.
Key Responsibilities:
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
- Welcoming patients in accordance with Good Shepherd Standards of Care, delivering exceptional customer service, completing thorough patient registration at the time of service, and adhering to financial and cash control policies. This includes explaining and securing necessary hospital and patient legal documentation (e.g., Advance Directives, Conditions of Services, Consent for Treatment, Important Message from Medicare, EMTALA, etc.). Responsibilities also involve scanning Protected Health Information and organizing patient information packets for upcoming services.
- Informing patients about their financial responsibilities, utilizing compliant collection methods before, during, and after service, and conducting cash reconciliation and secure payment entry in line with financial policies.
- Conducting medical necessity verifications in compliance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, confirming insurance coverage and eligibility, completing assigned financial clearance tasks, obtaining necessary authorizations for hospital services, and facilitating inpatient notifications to payors. This role may also include assisting with the coordination of post-discharge care.
Work Environment:
The position is situated in an indoor setting, shielded from external weather conditions. Occasionally, the representative may encounter challenging or disruptive customers. The work area experiences consistent foot traffic and variable noise levels, necessitating adaptability to a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Duties include frequent phone interactions and collaboration with various stakeholders, including vendors, physicians, nurses, and other patient-related entities.

- Engaging in physical activities such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
- Remaining seated for extended periods.
- Providing assistance to patients as needed.
- Working hours that may exceed 8 hours daily.
- Handling potential exposure to infections, contagious diseases, or cleaning chemicals.
- Exhibiting depth perception to monitor the waiting area for necessary interventions.
Qualifications:
A. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
B. Experience: A minimum of 2 years in a hospital setting is preferred.
C. Bilingual skills, particularly in English and Spanish, are preferred, along with the ability to engage with a culturally diverse population.
