Job Title: Director of Engineering Initiatives

Spelman College seeks an experienced professional to oversee the Dual Degree Engineering Program (DDEP) and hold a faculty position as an Instructor in Engineering. The successful candidate will be responsible for the ongoing assessment and effectiveness of the program, managing activities related to corporate and institutional engagement, leading fundraising efforts, and serving as the secondary academic advisor for DDEP students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop strategies to demonstrate the program's effectiveness and opportunities for growth through data collection and analysis.
  • Identify synergies with the Atlanta University Center Consortium DDEP office, Clark Atlanta University, and Morehouse College to enhance programmatic and curricular offerings.
  • Ensure that the DDEP pre-engineering curriculum and advising structure meet accreditation standards, educational best practices, and engineering institution program requirements.
  • Lead the internal steering committee and develop publications and reports highlighting the program's success.
  • Provide individualized guidance to DDEP students to prepare them for advanced study in engineering fields.
  • Support NSM departments and other college units in promoting academic success and potential for graduate study related to engineering.
  • Collaborate with the Department Chair on the student's primary major to certify DDEP students for graduation.
  • Manage DDEP budget and supervise DDEP staff, including the program coordinator and graduate students.
Requirements:
  • A master's degree, PhD preferred, in a science-related field and at least three years of experience within a higher education or corporate engineering environment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Advanced skills using Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Program management experience in a science-related field.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • OSHA, HAZMAT, and First Aid training.
