Support Staff Associate

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Support Staff Associate to join our team as a Coverage Paraprofessional. In this role, you will provide direct support to individual students and classrooms on an as-needed basis. You will participate in daily instruction and activities, collaborating with teachers and other staff members to create a positive and inclusive learning environment. Your duties will be varied and may include assisting with classroom activities, managing student behavior, and providing one-on-one support to students with diverse needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support students with mild to moderate disabilities in a variety of settings, including classrooms and individualized instruction rooms.
- Assist teachers with lesson planning and implementation, including developing and implementing individualized education plans.
- Provide one-on-one support to students with diverse needs, including those with autism, physical disabilities, and other special needs.
- Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Manage student behavior and provide redirection as needed.
- Communicate with parents and guardians to ensure consistency and coordination of student services.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Special Education Administrator and Principal/Head of School.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or 48 credit hours of college coursework preferred.
- Experience working with students with mild to moderate disabilities required; experience with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and other therapies preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and other staff members.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Valid authorization to work in the United States required.
- Other qualifications may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Working Conditions:
The Boston Public Schools is a dynamic and inclusive learning environment. As a Coverage Paraprofessional, you will be working in a variety of settings, including classrooms and individualized instruction rooms. You will be required to lift, bend, and stand for long periods. You will also be required to communicate effectively with students, teachers, and other staff members, using a variety of communication strategies and technologies.
