Job Summary

The Nurse Scholar I role at Atrium Health is an exceptional opportunity for a motivated individual to contribute to providing top-notch patient care. As a participant in the Nurse Scholar Program, you will work under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse and be responsible for assisting in maintaining a clean, safe patient environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform vital signs and tasks, documenting all findings and reporting pertinent data to the licensed nurse in a timely manner.
  • Conduct bedside shift reports and handoff communication to ensure seamless care transitions.
  • Collaborate with quality improvement initiatives to drive excellence in patient care.
  • Monitor patient safety and record behaviors of at-risk patients.
  • Assist patients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene care, oral care, toileting, ambulation, and eating.
  • Transfer, position, turn, and lift patients using proper techniques, body mechanics, and equipment.
  • Support patients with dietary needs by preparing food trays, feeding, and ordering replacements as necessary.
  • Measure and record patient intake and output, including meal percentages.
  • Contribute to the admission and transfer process by preparing patient rooms, gathering belongings, and orienting patients and families to the new environment.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly patient environment, ensuring equipment and supplies are readily available.
  • Perform clerical tasks, such as answering phones and call bells, entering data, and maintaining medical records.
  • Conduct inventory checks, restock supplies, and communicate reordering needs as necessary.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; completion of the first semester of a Registered Nurse academic program preferred.
  • Current listing on the NC Department of Health and Human Services Nurse Aide I Registry required prior to start date.
  • BLS certification required per policy guidelines.
