Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator II to join our team at University of Utah Health. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our database systems, including Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform database software releases and system upgrades, evaluating and installing patches as needed.
  • Evaluate and troubleshoot software and performance-related problems in coordination with senior database team members.
  • Maintain and monitor database system configurations and alerts to ensure data integrity, continuity, and availability.
  • Develop, document, and perform tasks needed to integrate new technologies into existing database environments.
  • Complete audits and reviews of database systems, including hardware, software, and network infrastructure.
  • Complete backups and data migrations as needed.
  • Review, document, and perform database recovery plans and procedures vetted by senior team members.
  • Install and configure database software as requested by senior team members.
  • Add, remove, or update database user account information, resetting passwords, etc.
  • Investigate technical queries and resolve user issues.
  • Understand and adhere to security policies and procedures.
  • Document and implement standard configurations to current systems and processes in collaboration with senior team members.
  • Triage and remediate reported problems.
  • Collaborate with senior team members on system performance tuning and testing.
  • Contribute to the development of protocols to validate that the database infrastructure is up and running.
  • Install and migrate database object changes through development, test, and production environments as directed by senior team members.
  • Participate in on-call rotation established for the team.
  • Work on complex projects under the direction and coordination of senior team members.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or other related discipline or equivalency.
  • Technical certification in related area or equivalency.
  • Experience working with modern DBMS (Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Cache', DB2, Teradata, and/or other).
Working Conditions and Physical Demands

This is a sedentary position in an office setting that may exert up to 10 pounds and may lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. This position involves sitting most of the time and is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
