Director of Executive Affairs and Engagement

The Chicago Architecture Center seeks a seasoned professional to serve as the Director of Executive Affairs and Engagement. This pivotal role will be responsible for developing and executing internal operational strategies to drive the organization's goals and objectives. As a collaborative civic leader, you will advocate for the built environment, ensuring that our programs and events cater to diverse audiences across Chicago.

This position requires a strategic advisor and thought partner to the CEO, working closely with the leadership team to meet performance expectations. Key responsibilities include managing executive affairs and engagement, overseeing all aspects of this function, including strategic planning, budgeting, and team management. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience in non-profit or government agency settings.

We are seeking a results-driven individual with 5+ years of experience in a similar role, preferably with expertise in arts, architecture, and non-profit management. A Bachelor's degree is required, with a Master's degree preferred in a related field. Additionally, advanced skills in budgeting, forecasting, and timeline management are highly desirable. Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a strategic advisor and thought partner to the CEO.
  • Acts as a strategic partner on the leadership team and works closely with the team to ensure they are meeting performance expectations.
  • Coaches and develops the team to ensure they are delivering against key business metrics and meet the mission of the organization in all that they do.
  • Learns methods to improve quality, efficiency, and productivity, reduce costs, increase profits, or improve control measures.
  • Works collaboratively to develop and/or improve systems, processes, controls, and procedures that improve the overall efficiency of the organization and ensures excellent client service.
  • Provides timely, accurate, and complete reports on the operating condition of the company.
  • Collaborates with the management team to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate the objectives of the organization.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to take on new tasks with a general attitude that no task is too small, impossible, or cannot be improved.
  • Works autonomously while ensuring CEO's expectations are readily met and exceeded.
  • Fosters a success-oriented, accountable environment within the company.
  • Represents the organization with clients, board members, and community partners.
  • BUILDs relationships with partners, key stakeholders, government agencies, elected and community leaders, and non-profit organizations.
  • Ensures the success of special projects such as equity initiatives, organizational strategic planning, and plan implementation and civics initiatives by supporting the Chiefs who oversee these areas.
  • Ensures program compliance, evaluation, and data collection in alignment with CAC's mission and strategic objectives, and ensures program compliance and participation with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Ensures collaboration and communication across divisions that support the direction of the CEO.
  • Runs logistics for all board, governance, finance, and executive committee meetings. Ensures meeting success with preparation and execution.
  • Assists with directing community engagements and partnerships to ensure participation and outreach with key stakeholders. Establishes and builds relationships and partnerships with architectural and academic professionals, arts, cultural, social, and civic organizations/groups/agencies, neighborhoods, communities, and artists.
  • Represents the agency and the CEO at events and meetings with staff, stakeholders, and partners.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred in Architecture, Museum Studies, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of non-profit or government agency experience in a similar role preferred.
  • Experience with boards, volunteers, and fundraising required.
  • Background in arts, architecture, and non-profit management required.
  • Experience managing a team with metric-driven outcomes preferred.
  • Demonstrated, verifiable leadership skills, ability, and experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Is highly organized and can prioritize and manage time to meet deadlines.
  • Diligent and firm with high ethical standards.


Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Master's degree preferred in Architecture, Museum Studies, or a related field.
  • Advanced skills in budgeting, forecasting, and timeline management.
  • Advanced knowledge of current trends and best practices in civics and education.


Knowledge:

  • Passion for Chicago's architecture, the built environment, and/or the architecture and design industry.
  • Knowledge of modern and contemporary architecture and architects, arts and culture sector, artist communities, arts organizations and groups, galleries, museums, art centers, and schools.
  • Knowledge of trends in professional art exhibitions, training programs, and artist-in-residence programs.
  • Knowledge of art, culture, and civic engagement.

  • Must be able to travel within the Chicagoland area.
  • Periodic evening and weekend work is required.


Salary:
$100,000 - $120,000 per year.
