Yard Operations Manager

Spenard Builders Supply, a leading provider of building materials and home improvements in Alaska, seeks a skilled Yard Supervisor to oversee the activities of yard personnel and ensure safe and efficient movement of goods and equipment on the premises.
Key Responsibilities- Manage yard staff and direct workers in loading, unloading, and movement of materials on the premises using material handling equipment and machinery.
- Oversee receiving of yard materials and instruct yard workers in receiving and storage procedures.
- Ensure employees receive proper training and certification to operate equipment and machinery used in the yard.
- Inspect loading operations for outgoing delivery to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, load limits, and safety regulations.
- Prepare and reconcile bills of lading and packing slips.
- Provide on-the-job training to outside or new yard employees, including product knowledge of items stored in the yard and warehouse, housekeeping, and safety procedures.
- Ensure outside areas are kept neat and clean, and scraps and yard debris are appropriately recycled or disposed.
- Assist customers in loading and load building, provide delivery status information, inventory availability, and answer related questions.
- Understand and observe all safety procedures and practices to prevent injury to self or coworkers.
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and five (5) years of yard operations experience, or equivalent education and experience.
- Advanced knowledge of yard and product activities on location, including component or materials weights and methods of loading.
- Ability to plan and coordinate work processes to maintain and increase manpower and equipment efficiency.
- Communication skills sufficient to speak before teams and work groups to explain work rules, product standards, and productivity goals.
- Ability to read and write work schedules and reports.
- Knowledge of basic math, counting, and estimating.
- Customer service orientation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
