Veterinary and Animal Program Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Lead Veterinary Technician to join our Insourcing Solutions team in Boston, MA.
Key Responsibilities:
- Write and participate in the implementation and training of SOPs, overseeing adherence to these SOPs.
- Onboard and train veterinary technicians in areas such as animal assessments, basic techniques, veterinary drug use, equipment monitoring, and maintenance.
- Provide technical skills training to veterinary technicians and the research community in support of approved protocols.
- Coordinate veterinary technical staff to ensure adequate coverage for animal health reports.
- Conduct routine audits of animal holding rooms and procedure spaces to ensure animal health and well-being.
- Perform daily clinical observations, health examinations of sick animals, and provide treatments per SOP.
- Ensure and maintain veterinary records, including sentinel health reports, drug log audits, and inventory supply management.
- Contribute to preventative animal health and animal surveillance programs, including specimen collection, sample processing, and communication with diagnostic labs.
- Participate in management meetings and interact with research staff to provide problem-solving support and address requests and inquiries.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in animal science or equivalent.
- 2-4 years of related rodent care and handling experience.
- Veterinary technical skills in a research setting.
- Direct experience working with mice and rats, including health assessments, common injection techniques, gavage, phlebotomy techniques, and aseptic techniques for rodent surgery.
- AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technician level (LAT) or higher, CVT/LVT preferred.
Pay Range: $32 to $34 USD per hour. Salaries vary based on factors including experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
