About the Job

At Cook Inlet Tribal Council Inc, we are seeking a qualified Substance Use Counselor to join our team. As a Substance Use Counselor, you will play a vital role in delivering substance use treatment services to participants at our organization.

Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled and compassionate Substance Use Counselor to provide individualized treatment plans, conduct group sessions, and work collaboratively with our interdisciplinary treatment team. The successful candidate will have experience working in case management and related roles, as well as knowledge of Motivational Interviewing and Trauma-Informed Care.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct admission, intake, and orientation for participants entering services and complete necessary steps to enroll them in our program.
  • Assist participants in identifying treatment plan goals, objectives, and interventions.
  • Create and maintain written individualized treatment plans following our policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with treatment teams to ensure delivery of case management services and coordinate participant referrals for employment, mental health, housing, medical, local community clinics, social service agencies, and continuing care.
  • Provide individual and group substance use sessions to help individuals identify substance use patterns in accordance with their needs and identified goals.
  • Create and manage clinical documentation for participants, including assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, case-staffing, discharge summaries, and progress notes.
  • Maintain participant records within our electronic health record by completing written reports, group/individual notes, assessments, etc., within the required documentation timeframe.
  • Utilize ASAM and DSM-5 when making substance use diagnoses and recommendations.
Requirements
  • Alaska Chemical Dependency Counselor Certification I (CDC I) through the Alaska Commission for Behavioral Health Certification at time of hire.
  • Obtain Qualified Addiction Professional (QAP) approval within three years of Provisional Provider Application approval date with the State of Alaska.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in social work, psychology, human services, counseling, or substance abuse/addiction counseling is preferred.
  • Experience implementing and facilitating clinical best practices in the substance use field, conducting case reviews, and making placements using the current ASAM and DSM-5.
