Head Cashier

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head Cashier to join our team at Natural Grocers. As a key member of our front-end operations, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our cash handling processes, providing exceptional customer service, and supporting overall store operations.

• Train and direct cashiers to ensure they are communicating about the {N}Power program with customers, notifying customers of our donation to the local foodbank, educating customers on the Nutrient to Know About, and promoting store seminars and events.
• Complete the Daily Sales Report (DSR) and cashier closeout responsibilities.
• Issue and verify cash drawers.
• Handle returns and overrides at the front end.
• Address customer complaints appropriately.
• Ensure that front-end sets are full and well-maintained.
• Oversee completion of the front-end task list daily.
• Maintain all registers binders.
• Direct cashiers to tasks during slow times at the register.
• General cashiering and check-out duties, including running a cash register, bagging/boxing groceries, and providing carry-out service.
• Monitor, assign, and perform cart checks.
• Answer the telephone.
• Assist in managing special orders.
• Monitor, assign, and grind nut butters.
• Learn the location of products in all departments to direct customers.
• Participate in tagging, facing, rotating, cleaning, markdowns, stocking, and backstock as needed.
• Work a schedule based on store needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

• High School diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in retail, preferably in a grocery or retail environment, with a natural foods background a plus.
• 1 year of cashiering experience preferred.
• 1 year of supervising others preferred.
• Ability to pass food safety training courses and/or certifications as required by law and maintain compliance.
• Ability to manage changing priorities and stay focused on tasks.
• Sense of urgency in completing tasks.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Highly organized with great attention to detail.
• Ability to take direction and follow through.
• Must be cashier-trained and able to count currency.
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
