Job Summary

Nursing is the diagnosis and treatment of human response to actual or potential health problems. As a leader and the integrator of care, the professional nurse has the responsibility, authority, and accountability for planning, coordinating and evaluating the patient's care needs.

Key Position Details
  • This position will float to our 8-bed Special Care Unit, PACU, ER, Med/Surg, and the Flyer role which responds to code responses.
  • 60 FTE; Straight Nights; 12-hour shifts; Every 3rd weekend

Job DescriptionPrinciple Responsibilities
  1. Assessment
  2. Collects, prioritizes and synthesizes comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or and prioritizes data in a systematic and ongoing process that involves the patient, family, other health care providers and environment as data relevant to the situation to identify needs, patterns and variances.

  3. Uses appropriate evidence based assessment techniques and instruments in data collection.

  4. Diagnosis
  5. Analyzes assessment data to determine nursing diagnoses.

  6. Interprets assessment information to identify each patient's needs relative to age, developmental stage and culture.

  7. Formulates, revises and resolves nursing diagnoses that reflect the current patient and communicates nursing diagnoses with the patient, family and other health care team members.

  8. Documents nursing diagnoses in compliance with the patient care guidelines.

  9. Outcomes
  10. expected outcomes individualized to the, in the collaboration with the family, patient, realistic and measurable patient expected outcomes based on nursing diagnoses, patients present and potential capabilities, goals, available resources and plan for continuity of care.

  11. Planning
  12. Develops a plan that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.

  13. Develops an individualized plan considering patient characteristics or the situation as appropriate in conjunction with the patient, family and others.

  14. Establishes a plan that provides for continuity of care.

  15. Incorporates evidence based nursing practice takes into consideration current statutes, rules and regulations when developing the plan of the identified plan.

  16. Implements interventions in a safe, timely, appropriate manner.

  17. Utilizes evidence-based interventions and treatments specific to the diagnoses as implementation of the plan of care if appropriateDocuments interventions according to documentation the patient's progress towards attainment of the outcome.

  18. Evaluates the patient's/family's understanding of and response to the plan of care.

  19. Utilizes systematic and ongoing assessment data to revise diagnoses, outcomes and the plan of care.

  20. Involves the patient, family, and health care team members in the evaluation process when revisions in diagnoses, outcomes and the plan of care according to documentation guidelines.

  22. Systematically enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.

  23. Participates in quality improvement activities related to nursing practice.

  24. Incorporates available QI data to improve nursing practice and knowledge and competency that reflects current nursing practice.

  26. Acquires and applies the knowledge gained from educational experiences to current nursing practice.

Job Requirements
  • Associate's or Vocational degree required
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Licensed Registered Nurse - MN Board of Nursing required if working in the state of MN upon hire and
  • BLS Tier - Basic Life Support - Multisource required by completion of orientation
  • ACLS/BLS Tier 2-Advanced Cardiac Life Support - Multisource required
  • Certified Critical Care RN - American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) preferred
  • ACLS/BLS Tier - Multisource required if working on rapid response or code teams, or at regional sites
  • PALS - Pediatric Advance Life Support - Allina Health required depending on site, including regionals within 1 Year
  • CMSRN Medical Surgical Nursing Certified preferred
