Job Title: Seasonal Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurse to join our Labor and Delivery team on a seasonal basis. As a Seasonal Registered Nurse, you will provide high-quality patient care and support to our patients and families during their stay in the hospital.

Job Summary:

Under the general direction of the Unit Director, Clinical Manager, and Charge Nurse, the Registered Nurse (R.N.) will independently provide holistic, individualized care using the Nursing Process for patients routinely seen on the unit. The ideal candidate will possess advanced clinical competency, nursing judgment, teaching skills, and a commitment to improving the quality of patient care.

Responsibilities:
  • Assess, treat, and/or care for patients appropriately based on their age and needs.
  • Utilize holistic assessment skills to recognize subtle, covert, or abnormal signs and symptoms.
  • Identify nursing diagnoses and interdependent nursing problems, and select applicable nursing care standards to guide patient care.
  • Ensure that the Care Plan is specific and unique to the individual patient, utilizing Interdependent Nursing Standards and the discharge needs of complex/multi-system patients.
  • Perform nursing care, including safe administration of medication, troubleshooting equipment, and demonstrating skill in clinical problem-solving.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the Plan of Care and communicate through exchange report, making recommendations for future care and ensuring consistency with current documentation.
  • Communicate evaluation of, or changes in, patient status, providing supportive data to the physician or healthcare team as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate adherence to the Joint Commission's National Patient Safety Goals for Hospitals, as defined by Scope of Practice.
  • Document care provided, ensuring compliance with established Hospital policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of role by adherence to NPSGs as it relates to area of practice.
  • Perform a medical screening exam on patients in the observation/Triage room, after two years of Labor and Delivery experience.
Requirements:
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of California.
  • Current BLS certification or obtain within the orientation process, prior to hands-on patient care.
  • ACLS certification or obtain within six months of assignment to the department.
  • NRP, EFM, or obtain within six months of assignment to the department.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, if required.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages, if required.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two years of experience in Labor and Delivery.
  • Knowledge of interpretation of fetal monitor strips.
  • Knowledge of Maternal/Fetal complications and nursing responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of breathing and relaxation techniques, and ability to teach labor patients and support persons these methods.
  • Understanding of the stages of labor and nursing responsibilities during each stage.
