Key Responsibilities

This role involves:

  • Pre-Procedure Preparation:
    • Review patient medical history and physician orders for X-ray procedures.
    • Prepare and check the X-ray equipment, ensuring proper function and readiness.
    • Explain procedures to patients to alleviate concerns and ensure understanding.
    • Verify patient identity and ensure necessary paperwork, including informed consent forms if needed.
    • Ensure proper patient positioning and preparation for procedures.
  • X-Ray Imaging:
    • Position patients correctly to obtain accurate images of specific areas using proper techniques and guidelines.
    • Operate X-ray machines to capture images of bones, organs, tissues, and other internal structures as requested by physicians.
    • Adjust machine settings based on body part, patient size, and medical condition.
    • Ensure image quality meets diagnostic standards, making adjustments as needed.
    • Communicate with patients during procedures, providing instructions to ensure clear and accurate images.
  • Patient Safety and Comfort:
    • FOLLOW RADIATION SAFETY PROTOCOLS TO MINIMIZE PATIENT AND STAFF EXPOSURE.
    • Monitor patients during procedures to ensure comfort and provide reassurance when necessary.
    • Ensure safe patient positioning to avoid injury or discomfort during imaging.
    • Address patient concerns or side effects that may arise during or after procedures.
  • Image Quality and Analysis:
    • Review X-ray images to ensure they meet quality standards for interpretation by radiologists or physicians.
    • Confirm that images meet medical requirements, with correct body part alignment and exposure.
    • If images are unclear or incomplete, repeat procedures as needed, adjusting settings or patient positioning.
    • Provide preliminary assessments or observations to physicians if required, within scope of practice.
  • Post-Procedure Care:
    • Assist patients after procedures, ensuring stability and comfort before leaving the imaging area.
    • Remove protective lead aprons or coverings from patients.
    • Provide post-procedure instructions, including care for potential side effects or follow-up requirements.
  • Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
    • Perform routine maintenance and checks on X-ray equipment to ensure proper functioning.
    • Ensure the imaging room and equipment are clean and disinfected after each patient, adhering to infection control protocols.
    • Troubleshoot basic issues with the X-ray machine, reporting any malfunctions or concerns to appropriate staff for repair or service.
  • Documentation and Record-Keeping:
    • Document all relevant patient information, procedures performed, and images captured in the electronic health record (EHR) or imaging system.
    • Ensure images are properly labeled, filed, and stored in the system for future reference and analysis by physicians.
    • Maintain accurate logs of X-ray procedures, equipment use, and any issues that arise during operations.
  • Collaboration with Medical Team:
    • Work closely with physicians, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure prompt and accurate image review.
    • Communicate effectively with the medical team about any issues related to image quality or the need for additional imaging.
    • Ensure follow-up imaging or additional procedures are scheduled as needed.
  • Radiation Safety and Compliance:
    • Adhere to established safety protocols to minimize radiation exposure for both patients and staff.
    • Use protective equipment when necessary to protect patients and others in the vicinity.
    • Comply with all radiation safety standards, including guidelines for exposure levels and safety measures specific to the facility.
  • Professional Development and Training:
    • Stay current with advances in radiologic technology, including improvements in X-ray imaging and new safety protocols.
    • Participate in continuing education programs, workshops, or certification courses to maintain licensure and keep up with industry standards.
    • Assist in the training of new technologists, students, or interns, offering guidance on technical aspects of imaging and patient care.
