Job Summary

The Boston Children's Hospital seeks a skilled Sterile Processing Quality Assurance and Instrumentation Specialist to join their team. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and proper assembly of instrument trays according to pick sheets.

The successful candidate will verify instrument placement, check for good working order, and prepare trays for processing. They will also provide immediate feedback and coaching to staff members, document data in provided software, and identify discrepancies/errors in count sheets.

This position requires strong analytical skills to resolve complex problems requiring the application of clinical, scientific, or technical principles. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills to effectively deal with conflicting views or issues, mediate fair solutions, and possess well-developed writing skills.

About the Role
  • Kit Review and Accuracy: Maintain review kits for accuracy and instrument functionality, ensuring every kit is audited and entered into the database.
  • Error Trend Identification: Identify trends in kit errors and report findings from SPM collation to monthly staff meetings.
  • Immediate Feedback and Coaching: Provide immediate feedback to assemblers, offer coaching to staff when gaps arise, and recognize staff that are unreceptive to coaching.
  • Staff Evaluation: Recognize staff that are unreceptive to feedback and report findings and trends.
  • Case Cart Review: Review and inspect case carts for accuracy and completeness, helping create a missing/priority list to complete case carts.
  • Discrepancy Reporting: Accurately report all discrepancies.
  • Quality Assurance Support: Support enterprise programs for quality assurance needs.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Certification/Registration Required: SPD Certification, Level II Tech
  • Certification/Registration Preferred: CIS
  • Education Required: High School Diploma or Surgical Technologist
  • Education Preferred: Bachelor's Degree
  • Work Experience Required: Certification in SPD, 5+ years of experience
  • Work Experience Preferred: None specified

Boston Children's Hospital offers a competitive salary range of $65,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience.
