Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to serve as the Chair of the Department of Social Work at the University of Vermont. The successful candidate will provide leadership and vision for the department, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment that supports the academic and professional growth of our faculty and students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the department, aligning with the university's mission and goals.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the effective management of departmental resources and operations.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to promote a culture of excellence and innovation in teaching, research, and service.
  • Represent the department in university-wide initiatives and committees, promoting the interests and values of the department.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility and accountability.
  • Recruit, retain, and develop a diverse and talented faculty and staff, promoting a culture of inclusivity and respect.
  • Engage in scholarly research and publication, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field of social work.
  • Teach and mentor students, promoting their academic and professional growth.
Qualifications
  • PhD in Social Work or a closely related field.
  • Progressive leadership experience in higher education, preferably in a department of social work.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make informed decisions and take calculated risks.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, prioritizing multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a demonstrated ability to promote and support these values in a departmental setting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Scholarly record commensurate with the rank of Full Professor.
  • Experience with extramural funding and research grants.
  • Track record of publication and presentation in national and international forums.
  • Experience with accreditation processes and procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively in a unionized environment, promoting a culture of collaboration and respect.
