Vocal Arts Administrative Director Job Description

The Administrative Director of Vocal Arts plays a key role in leading the department's administrative, artistic, and financial operations. This position works closely with artistic leadership to develop and implement curricular and artistic programs, as well as long-term strategic planning.

The Director oversees the development of master calendars and schedules, aligning artistic, curricular, and institutional priorities. This role also serves as the lead producer for the Juilliard Opera season and all curricular and co-curricular performance activities. The Director leads a team of administrative staff, manages the Piano Fellowship program, Opera Directing Fellowship program, staff pianists, and other departmental programs.

This role builds and maintains relationships with key stakeholders, coordinating efforts to support the department's public presence. The Director oversees all aspects of Vocal Arts faculty, student, and guest artist administration across the department's three degree programs. They manage faculty and student issues, delegating responsibilities and collaborating with Artistic and Associate Artistic Directors as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement curricular and artistic programs, working closely with artistic leadership.
  • Oversee the development of master calendars and schedules, aligning priorities.
  • Lead the planning, development, and implementation of all performance activities and curricular initiatives.
  • Manage Vocal Arts student and faculty administration, monitoring academic progress and addressing concerns.
  • Oversee department-wide budget development and tracking, working closely with the Finance department.
  • Oversee artistic administration and engagement processes for guest artists and faculty, managing contracting and hiring processes.
  • Manage admissions and recruitment initiatives for all programs, working closely with the Admissions Office and Artistic Director.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, coordinating efforts to support the department's public presence.


Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Five+ years of professional experience in arts administration or higher education.
  • Experience working with prominent artists at the highest professional level.
  • High-level skills working with students and faculty in a conservatory environment.
  • Understanding of classical music and ability to read music and piano/vocal scores.
  • Ability to work inclusively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong decision-making and leadership skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and integrity under pressure.
