Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Underwriter II to join our team at First Citizens Bank. This is a hybrid role that requires regular time spent both inside and outside of the company office, with locations in Fayetteville, Wilmington, or Raleigh, NC.

About the Role:
  • This position supports the General Bank and is part of the commercial lending team by underwriting complex commercial portfolios at an advanced level.
  • The Commercial Underwriter II provides guidance on structuring, servicing, and analysis for new and renewal credits, as well as identifying, gathering, and reviewing financial information to determine borrower risk ratings and appropriate loan structuring.

In this role, you will assess and communicate risks to assist department risk mitigation strategies, provide service and support for associates and clients, and participate in client calls. You may also be responsible for assisting in identifying cross-sales opportunities and special projects to facilitate commercial lending activities and service capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:Underwriting:
  • Underwrite commercial credit actions according to applicable regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Review financial statements, communicate with clients or prospects, and perform analysis to recommend borrower risk ratings and appropriate loan structuring.
Analysis:
  • Sources, compiles, and interprets financial data to support structuring and approval of loans.
  • Reviews industry information and comparisons, key risks and mitigants, and collateral to form a general business overview of the borrower.
Risk Management:
  • Identifies risks through reviews, analysis, and research of new and existing commercial credit requests and relationships.
  • Works closely with Bank associates and partners to resolve risk issues, communicating review schedule and potential changes in the commercial portfolio.
Business Support:
  • May assist in Identifying cross-sales opportunities for new and existing relationships based on analysis activities.
  • Identifies servicing information and prepares credit analysis documentation.
  • Partners with associates and clients to determine needs and structuring of new requests, renewals, and modifications, participating in client and prospect calls as needed.
Qualifications:

We are looking for candidates with a Bachelor's Degree and 4 years of experience in Commercial Underwriting in C&I and Medical, Credit Analysis, financial statement spreading, preparation of projections, and trailing twelve month analysis. Alternatively, a High School Diploma or GED and 8 years of experience in Commercial Commercial Underwriting in C&I and Medical, Credit Analysis, financial statement spreading, preparation of projections, and trailing twelve month analysis are also acceptable.

Preferred qualifications include experience with credit relationships over $5 million and leadership experience in special projects to facilitate commercial lending activities and service capabilities.

Estimated Salary:

$80,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience.
