Job Summary

We are seeking a Central Insurance Referral Coordinator to join our team at UPMC. This role will be responsible for coordinating referrals and authorizations, ensuring seamless communication between patients, physicians, and insurance companies.

About the Job
  • Coordinate referrals and authorizations for outpatient facilities, specialty referrals, and diagnostic testing.
  • Pre-certify diagnostic testing and educate patients on policies, procedures, and benefits related to referrals.
  • Act as a liaison between patients, physicians, and insurance companies, maintaining a friendly, courteous, and professional demeanor.
Responsibilities
  1. Interact with physicians, physician extenders, and colleagues in a professional manner, explaining policies and procedures, answering questions, and providing instruction to patients and family members.
  2. Be aware of individual needs, receptive to questions and criticism, and willing to offer assistance, protecting each person's legal and moral right to unbreached confidentiality.
  3. Perform other duties as assigned by manager, utilizing electronic referral and authorization services, communicating with insurance offices, and handling appeal requests when necessary.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a physician's office or outpatient facility
  • Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records/Electronic Health Information systems, insurance companies, guidelines, and requirements, authorization and referral process, and websites
  • Familiarity with Windows software, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong organization and communication skills, ability to work independently and within a team
Benefits and Compensation

Estimated salary: $55,000 - $65,000 per year, depending on location and experience
