Job Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Quality Control Professional to join our team at West Fraser, Inc.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with and/or handling all facets of the Quality Improvement Program and Statistical Quality Process implementation. This includes becoming a certified log grader, lumber grader, maintaining quality readings and documentation, chip analysis, caliper measurements to 0.001, familiarizing themselves with lumber grades, and performing maximum quality improvement efforts with minimal supervision.

As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with management, sales organization, and customers to ensure the highest quality products.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with and/or handle all facets of the Quality Improvement Program and Statistical Quality Process implementation.
  • Become certified as a log grader and lumber grader within the first six months of training.
  • Maintain quality readings and documentation, perform chip analysis, and caliper measurements to 0.001.
  • Familiarize yourself with lumber grades and perform maximum quality improvement efforts with minimal supervision.
  • Work collaboratively with management, sales organization, and customers to ensure the highest quality products.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of high school or equivalent education.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be approachable and possess good people skills.
  • Must have good communication skills (ability to communicate with mill personnel in a helpful and constructive manner).
  • Must be customer-focused and unwilling to compromise on quality.
  • Must be willing to work in all weather conditions and standing for long periods of time.
  • Must have knowledge of computer skills or willing to learn within 30 days (spreadsheets, graphs, word processing).
  • Must be a Certified Shed Lumber Grader and willing to learn sawmill techniques or have sawmill experience and be willing to become a Certified Shed Lumber Grader.
  • Must understand the statistical process. College statistical courses a plus.
  • Must have a desire to learn new skills and a sense of urgency to implement those skills safely within a scheduled timeframe.
