Environmental Health Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Health Specialist to join our team at the Town of Greenwich, CT. The successful candidate will be responsible for enforcing environmental health laws and regulations, inspecting establishments for compliance, and educating the public on environmental health issues.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct thorough inspections of food service establishments, sewage disposal facilities, and other environmental health-related sites
- Enforce environmental health laws and regulations, and issue citations as necessary
- Provide education and training to food service personnel on proper sanitary practices
- Review and approve plans for new construction and renovation of food service establishments and body care facilities
- Investigate complaints regarding unsanitary conditions and take necessary steps to secure compliance
- Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Sanitary Engineering, or related sciences
- 2 years of experience in community environmental health or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Licensed as a Registered Sanitarian in the State of Connecticut or ability to become licensed within 3 years
- Certification in Food Service Inspection and Subsurface Sewage Disposal Design Phases I and II
The successful candidate will be required to work independently, completing projects in a timely fashion, and to communicate effectively with business owners, the general public, and fellow employees. The position requires the ability to operate a personal computer and related software programs, as well as standard office equipment and industry-specific equipment such as testing thermometers and pool testing kits.
