Job Title: Clinical Psychiatric Consultant

Job Summary: The City of New York is seeking a Clinical Psychiatric Consultant to join our team. As a Clinical Psychiatric Consultant, you will be responsible for performing psychiatric evaluations of clients at home, at HRA sites, or at other designated sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate daily activities with the Clinical Intake Unit on an ongoing basis to ensure proper assignment of cases.
  • Coordinate time and place of evaluation with client's caseworker.
  • Review all available clinically relevant material, including referral information and previous VPS evaluations prior to the psychiatric evaluation.
  • Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations of clients as per OHMHS' policies and procedures.
  • Prepare a detailed mental health report as per OHMHS policies and procedures.
  • Formulate service and treatment recommendations to assist the referring agency in planning for the client's biopsychosocial needs.
  • Arrange for the involuntary transport to the hospital of individuals who are dangerous to themselves and/or others in coordination with police, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and hospital personnel.
  • Refer appropriate cases to HRA's Office of Legal Affairs for guardianship, Guardian-AdLitem, STIPSO, and other legal interventions.
  • Execute Orders to Gain Access (OGA) in coordination with the Police Department and Adult Protective Services.
  • Review and sign legal affirmations prepared by the Office of Legal Affairs.
  • Testify in court proceedings for guardianship and other legal interventions.
  • Consult with the Medical Director regarding utilization off MHL Section 9.37 authority.
  • Attend clinical supervision and training sessions.
  • Comply with OHMHS quality assurance standards.

Qualifications:

  • Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York; and
  • Completion of three years of approved residency training in psychiatry.
