As a Child Welfare Specialist, your primary responsibility will be to ensure the safety and well-being of vulnerable populations.

Salary InformationThe estimated salary for this position is between $37,280.75 and $43,968.62 per year, depending on level and experience. In addition to a competitive salary, full state employee benefits are included.
Annual Salary Breakdown:
- Level I: $37,280.75 + Full State Employee Benefits
- Level II: $40,077.79 + Full State Employee Benefits
- Level III: $43,968.62 + Full State Employee Benefits
Applicants with a Master's Degree in Social Work may be eligible for an additional 5% salary incentive.
On-Call Bonus: On-call positions receive a bonus ranging from $100 to $150 every two weeks, based on responsibilities.
Job ResponsibilitiesYour key duties as a Child Welfare Specialist may include:
- Investigating allegations of child abuse or neglect
- Protecting the safety of children and providing services to help families overcome barriers to their children's safety
- Working in Child Protective Services (CPS)
- Providing services to families through Family Centered Services (FCS)
- Developing permanency plans for children through Permanency Planning (PP)
As part of your training, you will complete the Child Welfare Core Academy Training Program, which includes learning treatment and preventive services, visiting children in placement, conducting assessments, referring families to services, participating in investigations, and more.
Travel Requirements: This role requires extensive travel, and you must possess a valid driver's license and maintain required car insurance. State vehicles are available for use when necessary.
Required Skills and QualificationsTo succeed in this role, you should possess:
- Completion of 90 hours from an accredited college or university; OR 3 years of experience related to child welfare work; OR A combination of education and experience
- A bachelor's degree (in any field) to qualify for Level II; OR one year of experience as a Child Welfare Specialist
- A Master's degree; OR a Bachelors Degree plus one year of experience as a Child Welfare Specialist; OR Two years of experience as a Child Welfare Specialist
